Another starter problem

i was out on the trails late last year when I stopped to admire the views near Alston  when I went to start it was jammed, the lights were dimming when trying to start, I managed to bump the bike finish my ride, I cleaned it up put it away for another day, with work and winter yesterday I manage to take the starter off, after striping it down the magnets were shot two were smashed, I had a starter from a klx 250 so i only needed to change the bottom bit the mounts to the engine, now when I installed it the starter was jamming so I took it off again turned the motor round inside the starter then put it back together, it works fine, now my problem is it just spins like the sprag clutch is not engaging, this was new about two years ago it was fine before the starter went, I plan to open the side case to take a look but I'm  thinking it's the sprag clutch another £120

are the sprag clutch originals yam part or are the china copy's as I don't think the sprag clutch should break as quick as this.

Hi Kevin

I recognise the symptoms - your starter motor is spinning the wrong way. Sorry but you need to strip out the starter again and turn the body section with the magnets around end to end.

Brian if it's spinning freely like it is then it's the wrong way, the other way the starter was jamed

Stripped the casing off took the splag clutch off, everything looks ok, I took the spark plug out I tried to rotate the engine from the sprag clutch side nut, it will rotate about 180 then it stops dead, it feels as as if its hitting something, then I turn it the other way and it dose the same.
Any ideas whats happening

It sounds horribly like the cam chain has jumped on its sprockets allowing the valves to make contact with the piston which in turn prevents the engine rotating cry

Time to take the cam cover off and check underneath methinks....
