Need help.... TTR won't start and run properly after a lay up
Permalink

Hi guys,

I just purchased an 04 Ttr250. It hasn't been started for 9 months. When I brought it home thought it might be something simple but it won't start.

It it started for a couple seconds once and the died. I have had no luck since. I changed the spark plug, put fresh fuel in, flushed a bit of the old fuel out, but nothing.

I'm only new to all this even riding. So any help would be great thanks.

cheers Wuss.

Welcome to the forum. Seeing as it's been standing for 9 months i'd say that the carb would need a clean out, especially the pilot jet. Remove the carb and give everything a good clean, spend some time making sure the pilot jet is as clean as you can get it then see how it runs.

It seems many of us bought TTRs that have been put up for a while.

As already suggested, strip down the carb. Clean the jets as best you can but I found, as others have, that they are still never as clean a new ones, which are not very expensive. Also check your float valve as well as the tank pet****. All of these were blocked on mine. Be careful removing the float pin, as it only comes out one direction.

Can't seem to find the "stickie" for the carb rebuild thread. There are also some links out there to download Yamaha service manuals .

Good luck!

Yes i think it is worth renewing the pilot jet and cleaning the rest of the carb, it's the only way of knowing that it's 100% clean and could save a lot of time.

I have had a go at repairing Jarrah's thread with some of my own library pictures but obviously it's not as good as when Jarrah's own were showing disbelief
