I have the head and barrel off to repace a few parts, while it's apart i plan on spraying the head and barrel with some heat resistant silver paint. Any tips on cleaning the fins ready for paint ?

It is a pain getting the area between the fins clean. I have a small diameter brass brush that is quite effective - backed up by the pressure washer. I usually manage to soak myself from the blow back though disbelief

Unless the anodising is flaking then I would spray on top of the cleaned fins.

Domestic creamy cleaners like Jiff and Gumption work a treat on ground in dirt and mud

I usually use an old paint brush and make an abrasive paste and just work it around
