Trip to the Flinders Ranges... Outback Australia
Permalink

Hi all, Dave here

Overlanding eh? Thats not a term I've heard before, must be a European thing! Here in Oz we just call it going for a ride, which I did back in August, the initial shakedown run on Mini Me!

If my schoolboy geography is correct, its winter over there and you poor Pomgolians are freezing your nuts off! so feast on the glory that is Australia!

I'll just put a short description on each photo, you can ask for more info or Google will be your friend!smile

An hour into the trip, not fully confident yet!

Old store,Binalong

Statue to the Kelpie dog,Ardlethan

Wheat silo,Rankin Springs

Typical outback road

Mungo National Park

Then old woolshed,Mungo

Ute on a stick, Pooncarie

Darling River

Yeah, made the next state!

Arkaroola is at the top of the Flinders

Orroroo, every Aussie town has a war memorial

Quorn, the bottom of the Flinders

Quorn

Rail museum Quorn

Warren Gorge

Hugh Proby's grave

Kanyaka ruins

Wet day

Made it Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks fantastic, you're very lucky having such a great place to ride around. Some of the pics remind me of Morocco.

Very good, David. The Australian vistas are V A S T

Vastvistas could become an Australian term, maybe. confuse

What would worry me, besides the suicidal 'roos, would be having a terminal mechanical breakdown in the middle of so much vastness.

To me Cubber, that is the wonder of it,nothing I like better than being in the middle of nowhere all alone, makes your thinking go all deep and meaningful!!Most days I never saw another vehicle or person while travelling and thats the way I like it!! I carry a PLB and a satellite phone at all times, so if it does turn to crap at least I can be rescued! And besides, I'm on a TTR so what could possibly go wrong!

really nice pictures!
I've enjoyed some of those places too - on a postie bike rally from Cameron corner to Flinders and Lake Eyre.

kangaroos? - hate them! - I have hit about four on bikes (luckily with no injury - 'roo came off 2nd best).

But to TTR250 issues - would you care to describe some of the extras on your bike?
eg:

oil cooler (unusual);
fuel tank - different type to usual long range tank - any fitting issues?
extra side panels - what are those red things?
and what is that wrapped around the right footpeg?
luggage - any issues with heat from the exhaust?
rack - any looseness or fitting problems?

it looks like you have a good touring setup.

So thats the Flinders done, now I need to get home to the East Coast, I decide to go the long way round!

I head south, over the Murray River, Australias greatest river

Museum in Morgan

Old paddlesteamer being restored

Awwww, pretty!

Wine vats at Berri, heart of Australias wine industry

Port Campbell, loved this place

I have seen waves crash over this pier!

Loch Aird gorge, home to one of Australias most famous shipwrecks

Apollo Bay statues

The beach

Lake Buffalo

Vintage iron!

Another ferry trip!

Murray River

Camp at Jingellic on the banks of the Murray

The old bridge

Farm land

If you only Google one thing, make it the Snowy Scheme!

Even gotr some snow!!!

Bign Trout Adaminaby

3 mile dam, snow in the background

Cooma, my second home!

Contented cows

Nearly home

And then I was, catching up with my mate at the bike shop!

Hope you enjoyed!, Dave

Good one mate, will be up in the Flinders again in April, two of us on TT250R's, love the PAR, the gorges, the mines. One ride you should try is "Mt Samuel" best riding in the Flinders but don't suggest doing on your own.

Last year was my 1st time on the TTR up there & had a ball, I have many videos from up in the Flinders, my youtube channel is kaneterry if anyone is interested

Cheers Terry

Just on 5000 ks mate, over 20 days. I do one big trip each year, and just head off in a general direction and take it as it comes, I think I did one 600k day , but some days I only did 200ks!

I actually took about 800 photos, yes, I'm a big photo fan, I have about 40,000 motorcycle related pics on file!smile but I culled it down to a 100 or so!

I just went through link for the photos, it is a beautiful country, the scenery and the roads are stunning. I would love to be able to hop on the bike in that weather and ride where ever the fancy takes you, camp where you like in the open country. Mighty.

Hadn't seen this one before, Dave.

Made me smile.

made me wistful of not being on a bike for nearly 2 months now. With another month to go I expect.

Injured, not disqualified.
