Replacing fork seals - an easy method?

I had an email from an owner with an interesting approach to replacing fork seals - see below:

"I have just been busy fitting fork seals. You may not approve of my technique but I very simply remove the dust seal/fork seal retaining clip and attach a mini air compressor to the top valve. 200psi pushes the seal oil nice and slowly. I fit news seals, pour in new fork oil and all done (obviously drained out old oil first).

 

Another trick I'm sure you know if the fork doesn't have an air valve is to fill the fork up to the top with engine oil, re-fit the top bolt cover, remove the dust seal/fork seal retaining clip, lay the fork on its side and use a scissor jack up against something with blocks at either end of the fork to protect when compressing it. That technique also pushes the seals out without having to strip them down. Learnt to do that on the side of the road in Canada one time "

Anyone ever tried the first method on their TTR?

Sorry Pete - I completely missed your earlier post disbelief

So we now know it is a tried and tested method - can't wait to try that out although I would prefer not to have a leaking fork in the first place wink
