G'day All, my ttr has developed another oil leak. I fixed the usual one on the head with a plug from Brian. This is messy and leaves a spot every time I park it

It would seem unlikely (but not impossible!) for oil to leak from the top of the clutch cover.
Has the oil line or timing chain tensioner been disturbed recently? If so, the pic shows the 4 most likely possibilities for oil to leak. A leak from these points can be hard to find as it spreads on a clean casing surface.
Just a thought, could you clean off any oil residue from these areas, spray a fine mist of WD40 or equivalent and then cover with talc or fine dust? Run the engine and it should show the source of the leak in the dry talcy/dusty surface.
I degreased the engine thoroughly today and went for a short 15km ride. All the oil line banjos were tight and oil free. The tensioner fitting was dry too. The only oil I could see was coming from the gasket section in the photo. There was a fine oil mist deposited on the front lower and right side of the engine before I cleaned it.
Do these engines operate at a high crankcase pressure? That would account for the mist I suppose. I cleaned the oil separator bottle too. There was a little bit of emulsified oil in the lower tube.
On a positive note, even after about 500km since I did an oil/filter change the oil is still spotlessly clean. I run a premium mineral oil in 20W-50 in readiness for our long, hot Summer!

If you pop the oil breather pipe off the emulsifier and start the engine are you able to feel the pressure waves? It is unlikely that it is blocked but worth checking!
Having once started an engine with the oil filler cap off, I can testify that there is a fair bit of pressure in the crankcase
It sounds like a new clutch cover gasket is next on the agenda if only to eliminate that as the source of your leak.
A remote possibility is that the engine has taken in water and "hydraulicked" at some stage. I have known this to happen and it stretched the head bolts. The cylinder base gasket was damaged in the process and started to leak afterward.
Thanks Brian, there was 'pulsing' from the breather tube so I guess that means it wasn't blocked On closer inspection it looks like the side cover gasket has been badly fitted, there is a crease or something where the oil is leaking from.
The TTR is going down to my local bike mechanic for repair tomorrow, I just started a new job and am doing ten to twelve hour days so no time to work on the TTR
Cheers.

My TTRs tend to pick up on forum problems and copy them
My current refurb was leaking oil from "somewhere" on top of the crankcase - a bit like yours but the oil was running back rather than to the front of the engine. Always difficult to find the source if the crankcases and the oil are both clean!
I doused the area in talc - I thought about using a dusting of fine dirt but decided talc was probably more inert!
I then started the engine and it wasn't long before I could see oil oozing out the banjo bolt near where the engine number is stamped so "le technique" worked.
Just a case then of hosing off the talc, drying the area and then taking off the oil line and either annealing the copper washers or replacing them with new
My TTR was dropped off to my local bike mechanic this arvo. Having oil leak fixed, valve adjustment checked, fork oil changed and a set of Kenda K761 dual sport tyres fitted, and the Knobbies put into storage
Pick it up a week Saturday ready to hit the Commuter role
