My Daughters' 1996 TTR 250....Help!

Hello all, My Daughter Charlotte is now riding a 1996 TTR 250 Open Enduro Bike. She loves it, has named it and is progressing toward a kids enduro race later in the year. (She is 13 and 5ft 7) She progressed up from a KX125 which scared the life out of her alas, but was good experience. I need your help with some challenges. 1. Weight- It is just that bit too heavy. How can I lighten the load? I want to change the fuel tank to plastic, change the exhaust and remove running gear. Ideas on parts and any other ways around it? 2. Starting- It only starts in gear, which can be tricky to find when flustered after stalling or dropping it. Can this be changed? 3. Plastics and decals- Big disadvantage of an older bike, where can I get these from? 4. Clutch and throttle cable- EBay has come up with nothing. Where else is easy to try and look? 5. Lowering kit? I am so glad I found this site....I really hope you can help me out. Thanks in advance Mark

Welcome to TTR land, Mark (and Charlotte).

If you carry out the listed amendments then the TTR's weight will certainly diminish and the height will be lessened.

As well as lowering the rear with a link you can lower the forks too, by pushing them up through the steering lugs. If you fit handlebar risers then the forks can be pushed up further.aww

What running gear were you thinking of shedding to lighten the load? confuse

Decals can be sourced from D&D - eBay - MXdecals - and a few more by typing "ttr250 decals" into Google

eBay lists mainly US sources though.

Welcome to the forum Mark. Charlotte fits that TTR pretty well for a 13 year old!

See my reply on your other thread.
