Oil leak, Quick question
Permalink

Going off the previous guys post about the oil leak seen here. I have ordered the replacement cap but the retaining bolt ive got it also leaking, I think its stripped. It wont tighten down at all. Does anyone know what part number or what kind of screw this is? Mine looks slightly different then the one pictured, its like half threaded and half just a smooth bolt. Seems like a 50 cent fix. Any ideas?

Also is there any kind of epoxy that works on engines, was thinking about just lathering that baby up and sealing it for good.

Thanks

Hi Marcus, your first post and welcome to the forum.

The screw does nothing on your bike other than fill the hole.

The rubber covered front plug seals the position where the valve lifter was fitted and that was secured by that screw.

If I were you I'd be looking to re-thread the hole and fit an oversize screw. aww

The hole could really be filled with Araldite or JB Weld or similar I suppose.

Hi Marcus and another welcome to the forum biggrin

Regarding the bolt, the correct one is shown (badly) in the pic below.

The bolt and its copper washer are cheap enough (see http://www.totallyttrs.com/NOS/index#decompressor_bolt ) so my suggestion is to Helicoil it so that you can put it back to standard. It means that you can then still fit the special alloy plug in the future if other remedies fail wink
