I've developed a grinding rattling metallic noise fromm around the engine sprocket - gearbox aria when riding, could it be gearbox bearingss, if so does this mean a complete engine strip, rest of engine runs as sweet as a nut,HELP

If I were you, Grandad, I'd take a good look at where the noise was coming from before anything else.

I've had rope, binder wire, twigs and stuff wrapped around my gearbox sprocket that sounded like major trouble.

Easily sorted - but very disconcerting.

I had a really bad rattle in that area and mine turned out to be as a result of the previous owner not tightening up the rear sprocket!

I've checked all the obvious, infact my friend made me a new top roler with a bearing at each end, the noise is worst in top gear and really chatters on over run, sounds like your shaking a load of ball bearings around on an aluminium can then when you have power on it sounds like your spinning the bearings around in the can.

Sounds like the chain might be touching the case saver it's a pretty common thing

Sounds bad and usually when you back off the throttle

Just have to take the front sprocket cover off.and  file a bit off the bottom end hope this might be the culprit
