Timing marks not lined up
Permalink

Noticed today when I had the bike at tdc the marks on the cam gear didn't line up flush with the head.

See pic:

does this mean the cam chains stretched?

Thanks

dave

Does not look like it's out by much, but I haven't done this before. If we knew how many km's the engine has we could make a better assumption.

How much is a cam chain? Would suck to replace just for it to look the same. Which side is the tensioner, left or right?

The part number of the timing chain is 94591-43122. I can't tell you the price for you to buy locally in SA but it's £25 GBP in the UK.

The tensioner is on the left of the picture - at the rear of the engine.

I've ordered the new chain so I'll just replace it regardless just incase it is that.

Looking through the how to guides it seems to be a really easy job to replace so it's probably worth doing.

Mileage on the clock says 2500 km so I'll assume that's not genuine lol

the engine runs perfect but there's a top end rattle that comes on as the revs are coming down then goes away at idle.

either way I'll post the results soon as the parts get here

New chain arrived this morning (thanks Brian) took about 2 hours from start to finish, surprisingly easy job to do.
Engine now sounds like brand new all marks line up etc

We'll chuffed :)

Dave

Good news, so marks that line up/not line up might be a good indication of cam chain wear. Will check mine when I check valve clearances.
