New wheel bearings, seals, spacers plus chain and sprocket set

My 325 looks after me very well so, with an MOT soon due, I decided to treat it to some new bits biggrin

There was a bit of play in the rear wheel bearings so I stripped them out and the cause was obvious. Water had got in and, with it, the dreaded rust no

The cause of the water ingress was grooved spacers allowing water past the seals (which need to run on a flat surface to work properly) and into the bearings. See comparison of old and new spacers below:

The front sprocket was hooking and the rear one was looking a bit worn so the TTR has also been treated to new chain and sprockets. I use 14/48 gearing on the 325 which is just about perfect for the Devon green lanes.

I also treated the TTR to some nice new chrome countersunk sprocket bolts. Just have to put it all back together when I have finished my cuppa biggrin

Just need to check lights etc and then book it in for MOT.

MoT time soon returns - unless pre 1961 and then they don't need one. biggrin

It's amazing that the spacers are so grooved by rubber.
Have they been running "dry" - would they be better smeared liberally with grease, regularly? confuse

Jezz passed my TTR's MoT with a clean bill of health so I think yours will be OK Brian.

They only get cleaned and greased when I have the wheel out Martyn. I guess my TTR is a bit like the cobbler's shoe disbelief

When putting the wheel back in, I thought the chain wasn't sitting properly in the lower guide and found this bit of tree wedged in. You can see where the chain had been running on it.

Not sure how it got in there but I had quite a job getting it out!

nice the I'm sure the ttr feels better .

I did my lower shock bearing yesterday and lubed/cleaned everything else while I was at it .

I fitted an all balls set of spacers a while ago and just lube em up each time I fit a tire about 4 times a year .still find a bit of water in there

Got a day off work today so heading out to see how it goes
