Non O-Ring/X-Ring Chains
Permalink

Does anyone use plain, non O/X-ring chains on their TTR, if so, what sort of conditions do you generally ride (dry, wet, mud, dust etc)?

I've got a tub of Putoline boil in chain wax that I use on my push-bike chains and thought that with decent chain cleaning and boiling in the wax would provide adequate protection for a chain that is likely to be washed after every ride or 2.  I would replace the chain twice as often if they were half the price which ultimately would probably extend the overall drive chain life.

Any thoughts on using cheaper chains, replaced more frequently?

The non öring chains are good on sealed roads but stiil need the extra lube time

As for off road the dirt gets in and they wear/stretch once they are ready to replace the damage to the sprockets is already done and the second chain doesn't last long at all

With an öring and new sprockets you will get ages out of the set with minor maintenance . I recon cheaper in the long run
