My First outing on the TTR250
Permalink

Hi to everyone well i went out on my first ride on my newly acquired TTR250 living on the edge of the Brecon Beacons i have plenty of trails and lanes to choose from i joined a group of four other riders and we covered over 80 miles we headed towards Ammanford then over towards Brechfa Forest all in all we had a good day.I am new to trail riding only starting in March so i tend to ride at a steady pace enjoying my surroundings as i ride, i was well pleased with the bike strange how different makes of bikes handle different i did find she struggled a little on slippery rocky sections as did the other bike but i think maybe i needed a better quality tyre ?? well next sunday i will be out again so i will see how she rides then.ride 3.jpgride 1.jpgride 2.jpg

Sounds and looks like you had heaps of fun.  I have to trailer my TTR for a two hour drive to the closest legal bush ride.

Nice one Wil - good to see the pics, The Brecons is a lovely part of the world - been trail riding in the area a few times wink

Regarding the slippery rocks, what tyre are you running on the rear and at what pressure?

We have a lot of slippery rocks (in the winter!) and most Devon trail riders choose to use the Pirelli MT43 trials-type tyre which can be safely run at about 8lbs (and lower if conditions are very bad) which gives a lot of grip. The MT43 is a crossply so doesn't exhibit the "squirrelly" trait characteristic of the more extreme radial trial tyres such as the X11.

the MT43 is a good trail tyre.... not a true trials tyre by todays standard like the Michelins & Dunlops..

I took a half worn Dunlop 803 comp trials tyre off my Montesa & put it on my XR250... ended up melting it

rideing at 100kph on the road... There don't like heat..

A good dot rated knobbly tyre is the michelin AC10.. used them on my Gas Gas now on the TTR..

If you follow my link to the X11 info you will see it warns that it is  "Homologated for road use, but is not designed for prolonged use in a single journey " but the MT43 is a different animal and can put up with prolonged road use at low pressures smile

Knobblies don't cut it on slippery slate and smooth wet rock. Visitors to Devon only wear them on their first visit to us - they have MT43s on if they come a 2nd time biggrinbiggrin
