I pick up my 'new' 1995 TTR tomorrow and it has a supertrap exhaust can fitted; I think that this came with it when it was imported to the UK in 2011.
It's pretty loud and I was wondering how best to quieten it as second hand genuine cans seem to be like hens teeth. I understand that you can play around (technical term I believe..) with the numbers of washers at the rear of the can where the gasses exit; more/less increase decrease pressure and sound???
Any advice or offers of second hand cans at sensible prices would be much apreciated (i've seen the half rotten one of ebay and I have no welding ability!).
I have a friend with a SuperTrap on one of his bikes. (I can't remember if it is the TTR or the WR250). Anyway, removing plates should make it quieter, and adding plates opens it up more and makes it louder. You may, however, have to make carb adjustments if you change the exhaust flow.
Ive have the same one and find it a bit restrictive compared to a standard exhaust. Rather than buying new plates Im going to put a washer between each plate and try that. I tried a standard exhaust and preferred that though as it was smoother and pulled better.

Removing the discs indeed quietens (cough!) the can a little. I went down to one and it was a fair bit quieter; 79db from 94db, and seemed fine blasting up and down the work carpark. However, once out on the open road and under load it ran like a strangled cat! 15 mins at the side of the road putting 4 more in so that I knew it would run..in the drizzle of corse. Day 2 and I tried 3 discs and it seemed fine (with a proper run this time). I tried 2 and was fine but felt a little 'fluffy' at the top end of the rev range a few times so reverted back to 3. So quite a few less than the origional 8 and it is a little quieter now. No adjustments to the carb.
No rings or end cap and the can could make your ears bleed!
I bought a bike with an FMF Q4 pipe and it was way too loud for trail riding. I tried all sorts of ways to quieten it but if I got it to a sensible roar it took 10mph off the top speed

It's fairly good nick a bit scratched from where the bikes gone down before and the paints a bit flaky but no holes and not too rusty. I would like a touch more noise as I'm nineteen but obviously not too much as I trail ride a lot and don't want to annoy everyone. If you are interested I could take some pictures and whatnot, I live in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire in th UK. Adam.

I've been told by others that it's not that noisy so I can live with it, I think I was just a little paranoid of upsetting others!
OK, well thanks for getting back to me. I'm after a different pipe for a bit more oomph and a bit more weight saving, noise is a bonus! :) I'll keep looking though Adam.
