Fuel injected TTR??

Whilst on my two week shut down over Christmas and the new year I had a thought. Has anyone ever converted a TTR to fuel injection? With the problems some have with jetting etc a fuel injection setup would or should cure that straight away.

My thoughts turned to finding a crashed WR250R or X and using the fuel injection setup off of that and then fitting it to a TTR.

The fuel pump may be a problem fitting in to a TTR tank or it may be possible to fit the WR tank. Fitting a lambda sensor to the header would be straight forward. The airbox may prove a bit tricky but I am sure everything else would be doable.

Or is there a company making fuel injection kits for small engines? I see that the AJP PR5 is fuel injected, the engine being a Chinese Honda clone.

A search of the internet turned up THIS which looks intresting. Have any of the US forum users heard of them?

My expreince of fuel injection is limited to single point and multi point systems on cars only though the operation should be the same for bikes. But having said that I know that the AJP PR5 launch was delayed due to getting the injection system right.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, it's just a thought!

Thanks for the link, Marty.

Not cheap though!

Looking again at the turbo TTR I see that it is injected. May have to investigate further to see what they used.

The TTR600 that was available over here was a carbed version. The reason I started thinking about this were for reliability rather than for power and if you used a setup from a 250cc trail bike you would cut out a lot of brain work!

I suppose it would not be necessary for the donor parts to come from a WR a KLX or CRF would do. The components may even come from the same manufacture in Japan.

It's all just a thought....at the momentsmile

Not sure what injection they would have used on the Turbo TTR that is on youtube or if you were real keen you could get hold of a system of a TT600RE and remap the software etc to run of a single throttle body... Lot of work and would imagine there would be sensors that need to ba added with a factory injection system.. might be easier to buy the 600re..

or this

Peter,

Do a google search for "Megasquirt" which is an opensource DIY fuel injection system that has been used to run anything from lawnmowers to v12's.

You can build the ecu from a kit or there are plenty of sellers who will do it for you. There is loads of info on nthe net and may even be someone who has done just what you're thinking. Best bit is everyone publishes their fuelling maps so you can generally find a suitable starting point to get it runnung and then fine-tune it.

I used it to run a 4.6 Rover v8 with and without supercharger, so I can vouch for it!

All the hardware like throttle bodies etc you can rob off newer bikes.

Have fun!

Giles

Thanks to Giles, this is the MEGASQUIRT link for UK. confuse

Good luck to you, Peter, if you decide to make and fit one.

If you do then be sure to think of us lesser mortals and report back, with pictures and details.

Martyn

Many thanks for the info Giles, and thank you Martyn for the link.

Too busy at the moment trying to earn a living and sell the house and find a new house etc etc. But who knows, one day!

My original thought was to fit a system from a WR from a wrecked bike but have not yet found a wrecked bike due to the above. But as I mentioned before I think any 250cc single should fit.

The Megasquirt kit looks very interesting, will have to find out more!
