TTR 250 PLAYBIKE
Permalink

I've recently picked up an 03 Blue TTR to use as an offroad only playbike, I've stripped all the roadgoing parts off to lighten it(just listed them on ebay) and it's probably only about 230lbs wet now,not much more than my sons CR250F 'crosser.

Anyway,I've had to buy a few parts for it,including a new set of black fork gaiters,I bought these on ebay for just £8.99 delivered, and as  I thought this was good value considering some of the prices I've seen,I thought I would pass on the info here. The company was called Busters(who turned out to be M&P) from just down the road from me!

I also cut and shut the very loud sports bike silencer that came on the bike to make it lighter and smaller, but bejeesus it's still too noisy,I didn't think a 250 could make so much noise! It's running fine now though(nice quiet engine),after a good carb cleanout-jetting was 50 on the pilot and 147 main, but I will need a new needle and seat and an accelerator pump diaphram soon, anyone know where I can get them?

These gaiters look like they are pretty good quality rubber, they even have the rib around the inside bottom that fits in the groove on the TTR's fork leg, came with stainless bottom jubilee clips too.. Better quality than some of the famous name brands I've seen, but time will tell :)
Thanks for the info on the diaphram.

I've just taken my TTR out to our private test track(ex NCB disused coal tip!)on it's maiden voyage, what a confidence inspiring little bike it is to ride. I haven't ridden for 18 months but within an hour I was climbing 100ft coal tips and chucking it about like a teenager. Even my 16 year old son who rides a CRF250 came back after a spin with a big smile on his face, he was quite impressed with the way it handled through the rutted sections and pulled from low revs. In fact I couldn't get him off it,'til he bit the dust while showing off his drifting skills to a couple of kids!
Found a couple more small jobs to do to it,throttle seems to stick open slightly on occasion and then after I've turned the tickover down to compensate it sometimes cuts out as you come to a stop( I've thoroughly cleaned the carb and jets out but didn't clean the slide or its linkage inside the top 'cos it seemed to be snapping shut nicely),front pipe looks like it's getting hotter that it has in the past-I've removed the airbox snorkel and radiused the edge of the hole and also made up an end can/silencer so it may be running a smidge lean. Jetting is 50 pilot and 147 on the main, any recommendations for upjetting it? Up 2 or 3 numbers on both shouldn't be far off I reckon. Oh yeah,it smokes a little bit on the over run, nothing serious, but I expect I'll have to change the valvestem seals later on.
