Hello

ridden quite a bit when i was a littler tike - starting on a peewee 50 at ~age 4 then into something like an RM85 (always prefered the blue hue though disbelief). tapered off around 12-13 and that was almost exclusively paddock riding. The love however never died, and after campaigning for the last while i convinced the powers that be to let me get a motorcycle licence, however it appears this may be an ongoing fight as city riding seems to be akin to death by stoning to some people... so that leaves me looking to get the old TTR 250 out of the pop's shed (pre-Y2K white open enduro model, not sure of year though), re registered and onto the road!. - no photo sorry!

I'm a complete newbie to just about all things bike confuse and seeing as im looking to ride it primarily on the road around the city, there has been issues, given as i commonly have no idea what anyone is talking about!; see tyres, tanks, headlights, brakes, PART NAMES!!!!, engine specifics beyond a carby/spark plug sorta thing. 

Looking to really get into it and and learn how it all works, and just wondering if anyone has any pointers as to where to start (a guide with some basics in it perhaps)... really keen to get out of the "huh?  "stage biggrin

Welcome, Tiernan, to the TTR forum.

We all have to start somewhere and a TTR is a good start for you.

Once you have learned to ride you will find that you will never stop. confuse

You will never stop learning is what I mean. wink I've been riding motorcycles since 1963 and I am still learning, honestly.

Here is a basic starter for a "dirt rider" newbie - CLICK HERE - it has good basic advice and tips.

Practice makes perfect - or so it's said - I'm still practicing and I'm nowhere near perfect. disbelief

I don't know whether you came to this forum through the TTR faq site, but if not the link is top left of the page just below Home. It's www.ttr250.com and should complete the huh? technical questions nicely!

Hi Gibbo, that's not a bad idea, there's also the Ride Out Planner on this forum So that all the blue bikes can get together as well

Welcome to the forum Bondsundies.

A good place to start is the manual, follow this link and download it

Manual

Read it from end to end a couple of times, that will alway help to get your head around all the different names etc...
