Loud click when changing down to first. Any ideas? Been using it in the floods a little bit "???????????

Oh dear, Daz cry  could it be rusted up? wink

I know it must be like teaching your grandmother to suck eggs but:-

  • Pull the clutch lever in ALL the way. aww
  • If you are doing that already then is the clutch cable frayed anywhere?
  • Is the clutch cable adjustment OK?
  • If so, then it's time to look inside - are the plates worn? confuse
  • Is the push rod bent?
  • Is the clutch basket secure on the shaft?

Work your way through the checks and you should discover the fault in due course.

I thought that the TTR clutch was a solid, dependable item that rarely gave grief. hmm Am I wrong?

Actualy the cluth cabel might be the first port of call as i noticed also that when it has been stood a while, if you pull in the clutch it,s a little stiff and jerky but when riding it feels ok.?????????? Not wrong either never had probs until now .....but there's a firts for everything.

Changed the clutch cable and the clicking is getting worse and harder to find neutral....OH DEAR!!!!!!! I'm using the bike to get about in the floods so taking it off the road is'nt a viable option at the mo it's the only transport option I have. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Doesn't sound good Daz!  I am guessing that the difficulty in finding neutral is because theclutch isn't releasing.

If you are sure the cable and lever is OK then have you checked the adjustment at the crankcase end? See item 10 on the pic.

If you have and it's OK then all I can think is that your clutch basket has notched and isn't releasing the plates properly.
