hi im haveing a bit of trouble getting insured on my 1993 open enduro does anyone know of insurance company that will insure my bike and ones that dont cost the earth lol
It realy depends on where you live and how old you are, Morgan.
I have been insured for motorcycles since the early 1960s and when I was 16 the premiums were extortianate. They reduced considerably when I passed 25 years of age and again when I reached 50. Now that I'm well into my 60s my insurance, fully comprehensive, for all my five bikes is less than £300 - and that includes my 1200 Suzuki Bandit.
I started out with brokers who supposedly seek out the policy to suit you. Currently I am with Footman James and I have been for the last ten years. Carole Nash was good at one time but their premiums started to rise drastically each year.
I have heard reports of high premiums for novice riders on large bikes. As young car drivers, these premiums are reportedly in the thousands of £s.
If you Google "motorcycle insurance" you will be overwhelmed with choice - pick a few and get quotes - then make a choice.
You have to start somewhere and good luck. Someone may come along with a more suitable answer but as of now - it's up to you!
cheers brian and cubber for your replys you were both a great help and brian dont know why i didnt try ebike i used to get my insurance from them wen i first passed my test have done a quote and was very impressed so once again thankyou to you both
I use eBike for a multi-bike (4 TTRs) policy with my bro' as a named driver and they are always the cheapest for me.
I have emailed you a money-off voucher for a quote. They do everything on line including being able to print a certificate immediately after paying for the policy. No charge for changing bikes mid year etc.
Also, I have had a very positive recommendation for both the ease of use and the excellent prices returned by the MCN comparison site here
Just tried the MCN site but they only allow TTRs registered after 2001 and got some good "single" bike quotes. My guess is that if you put in 2001 and then ring the cheapest firms that one of them will let you put the true age of your Raid on the policy
Hope that helps.
Brian
PS MCN doesn't include Carol Nash and they are always worth getting a quote from as their policies are always a bit more "comprehensive".
I have just bought a Raid '96 and assume this was imported . I tried to get a quote from Go Compare.com but the system could not recognize the bike by the Regn no or even by the words Yamaha... engine 250 .
Will it prove a problem getting a decent third party quote for an imported TTR ? Can anyone suggest a Co that is dirt bike friendly ? My son Charlie and I are keen to start using our newest toy .
Under Adventure and Fun Bikes in the Yamaha section.
I haven't looked any further, but if you Google "motorcycle insurance UK" there are plenty to go at.
If it helps, I have five motorbikes ranging from 200cc to 1200cc, old and new - they are on a multi-machine comprehensive insurance policy with Footman James, specialists in VMCC eligible machinery.
On the subject of insurance. Anyone have insurance in australia. Im looking for (theft only ). Most of the companys will only do full insurance. Also does anyone have the Market value of a 2006 ttr. Thnx. In Australia.
Hi All. I have an imported white TTR and am struggling to find it on insurance drop down lists. Is there an insurance company that forum members use? I dont want to invalide any policy by not coming clean on the detail. I was tempted to slot it in as a 2001+ model as they seem easier (and cheaper) to insure. Meerkat is no good. It seems its not so simples when you click the imported bow. They come back with a very swift "nyet"! Go compare is not too good either. Excess seems to jump to arouns 300-400 pounds :o(
Thanks Brian. I went and had a look at ebike after trawling previous posts. I'll take a look with the voucher and see how it shapes up. I've got 3 bikes and a car - all due for tax / mot / insurance in April.
Just tried Hastings as they were my last insurers and they won't touch the raid as it's an import and has a speedo in km, strange as the last bike I insured with them was a kx450 road legal crosser it had a number plate and nothing else, so ebike?
Dont bother with online quotes most dont list ttr and in the past have found Bennets most competetive but.. make sure you contact them directly and speak to advisor as they will insure the ttr but do not list .There quoute was a lot cheaper than e-bike by a mile 😉
The reason i say speak with an advisor is too 100%be clear that you are insuring your bike correctly .Online are great for common models but when you come to imports and rarer models it is essential to insure correctly as any claim can be refused due to technicalities and iusufficient info at proposal point .I speak from expeirience with insuring grey import cars designed for japanese domestic market JDM😉

I used to have swann insurance but found AAMI much cheaper. I'm 38 and it's 200.a year insured for 3500..mines an 02. Sorry but can't help with just the theft stuff as I've always j had comprehensive.
Agree! I called and spoke them them and they said they couldn't do any better.....so I went with £74 from devitt there a brokers never heard of them before but I'm insured and hopefully that's all that matters!
