Exhaust replacement in the UK
Permalink

I am frequently asked about what after-market exhaust is best for the TTR. The requirement seems to be that it is light, reasonably quiet and sensibly priced.

The problem is that I can't find anyone in the UK selling such exhausts. Has anyone else found one they can recommend?

There seems to be a gap in the market for a lightweight quiet replacement TTR exhaust. The quietest used to be the Oshiro but they don’t seem to be available any more.

The only one I can find is the FMF here  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FMF-Powercore-4-Exhaust-Yamaha-TTR-250-99-06-TTR250-/390169083093?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ad7e3bcd5#ht_1677wt_905 but that will come in from the States and therefore probably incur VAT etc on top of the list price. Also, I have heard one on a TTR and it is a bit rorty plus you will probably need to rejet. If Harty is reading this, didn't you also have a fitting issue which needed a collar made up?

Any information from UK owners appreciated!

Brian

I've still got the stock exhaust on my TTR but when I have thought of changing it, I was looking at the  FMF Q4 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FMF-Q4-Exhaust-Yamaha-TTR-250-99-06-TTR250-/180479562498

I presume its the quiet version of what you're looking at Brian?

I fitted an FMF Q4 to my '94 Raid a year ago and I'm pretty pleased with it. It's certainly quiet enough for road use though I'd prefer something a bit quieter if I still did UK green lanes (you could always go a bit slower, though

Jetting (look on the FMF web site) is pretty much standard. They do recommend a slightly smaller main than I have fitted but I haven't bothered changing it beacuse:

a) Mains seem to vary a lot by model/territory.

b) It seems fine on the 'flat out then roll of a bit' test.

c) Better a bit big than a bit small...

We have ordered two FMF Powercore through eBay and expect delivery in the Philippines in a couple of weeks.

Have already fitted the short primary pipe available from Totally TTRs and noticed an improvement in mid-range torque.

Chris can you explain how you apply the 'flat out then roll of a bit' test?
