Just got my used 05 ttr250 yesterday.  Still trying to make sure I prep the bike for years of riding.  Any helpful hints would be appreciated.  I will search the site to see if I can find anything.  Is a valve adjustment a nessessity?  That may be a little out of my mechanical league.

Just ride it! - oh, and hello, welcome.
The more you ride it the more you will understand it. wink

If it's new to you then do you have any idea when it was last serviced?
If that's a no then I would advise a minimum of an oil and oil filter change - just so you have a basis to work from for the next change. aww
It wouldn't hurt to check the air filter too - and clean and oil it as necessary.
You may want to check the brake pad thickness front and rear also.
Are the drive chain and sprockets in adjustment and fettle?
Tyres OK?
Valve adjustment shouldn't really be necessary unless it sounds a little rattly or losing compression.

If it's not bust then don't mend it. confuse
You will get its feel as you get to know it. They are cracking bikes, very rugged (but heavy).

Thanks.  Thats quite a complete service list.  I have done several of your suggestions already.  The bike seems to be running strong, but does have a little bit of a "tinty" (not sure how to explain) sound when revved.  I'm new to this bike and not sure if that is normal.
